Terence Clegg for Board of Education, District 2

Because I’m Raising Mine Here, Too

Community Leadership for Education & Good Governance (C.L.E.G.G.)

Why I’m Running

Our family relies on a high-performing public school system.

We experience this system from many perspectives—not as talking points or stump speeches—but as a family who wants the best for our children.

Every decision—big or small—matters, and families like mine feel the impact daily. As your representative for District 2, I will be a steady, confident voice for the thousands of parents and children who deserve more—and deserve better.

I am not just watching this system. I am raising children in it.

Every morning, I send three children into Prince George’s County Public Schools. They are not the same. They don’t learn the same way. They don’t need the same support.

Like so many parents, I trust their schools and teachers to help them thrive.

  • One excels in advanced instruction
  • One benefits from extra support in reading and math
  • One relies on structured services through an IEP
  • All of them grow and find joy through creativity and play

That’s why I’m committed to a school system that meets every child where they are—to help them reach their full potential.

Terence is proud to be endorsed by the Prince George‘s County Educators’ Association.

My Platform

Literacy is Power

Literacy is not optional. Being able to read changes everything—it shapes how children see the world, how they learn, and the doors they can open for their future.

By third grade, students move from learning to read to reading to learn. Without a strong foundation, every other subject becomes harder, and opportunities shrink.

Reading is more than academics—it builds confidence, independence, and choice. It is key to accessing opportunity.

As a board member, I will:

  • Invest with purpose: Support proven strategies that improve literacy for all students.
  • Lean on our community: Partner with local groups and businesses to put books into students’ hands— in schools, community centers, churches, barbershops, and more.

Advocating for Every Learner

I know what it’s like to sit at an IEP table advocating for your child.

You want to ensure they receive consistent, unbiased support as they navigate a system that can feel confusing and overwhelming. The process is challenging, and for most parents, it can feel impossible—especially if they don’t know what resources are available.

Families shouldn’t have to chase services that are already guaranteed. Students deserve to learn with dignity, without delays that impact their growth, and without feeling dismissed.

As a board member, I will:

  • Be a watchdog for progress: Ensure our budget and policies support the goals of the 2.0 Special Education Strategic Plan.
  • Support the whole student: Expand programs and resources so all students—especially those in special education—have what they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Parents Deserve a Real Seat at the Table

I am not running as a distant policy expert—I experience the system every day.

I am a father at the bus stop, in the pickup line, volunteering at field day, helping with homework at the kitchen table, and keeping three kids on track during virtual learning. We feel the system’s successes—and its gaps—every day.

But my experience alone is not enough. We need more voices and stories heard to truly understand what’s happening in the classrooms and communities where our children are growing. When parents are respected partners, trust grows—and when trust grows, schools get stronger.

As a board member, I will:

  • Make partnership and engagement a priority: Outreach shouldn’t just happen for snow days or cancellations; it should inform decision-making through regular listening sessions, accessible meetings, and clear communication standards.
  • Strengthen and Empower PTAs: Support parent-teacher organizations as vital partners in schools, providing resources, advocacy, and trusted guidance for students, teachers, and families.

We Pay, We Deserve Results

Families in Prince George’s County put real money—our hard-earned tax dollars—into our public schools. We deserve to see the results.

The budget is more than a single vote each spring. Just like in our own homes, how we spend determines what we prioritize and protect. Every investment should come with a clear expectation: measurable, positive outcomes for our students.

As a board member, I follow one guiding principle: if we pay for it, we deserve it, and we should see the impact.

  • If we fund literacy, reading scores should improve.
  • If we expand special education resources, families should feel the difference.
  • If we back safety initiatives, the climate in our schools should improve.

Budgets that sound good and budgets that work are not the same. I work hard, and I believe our tax dollars should work hard too—delivering real results for our children and our community.
