Terence J. Clegg Biography
Having worked to support children and youth for more than 20 years, Terence is committed to ensuring that every student in Prince George’s County has access to safe schools, excellent teachers, strong academic programs, and the support they need to succeed.
Terence Clegg is a public servant, education advocate, and dedicated father who has spent more than two decades supporting young people and families. With professional experience in education, youth development, and public service, Terence brings a well-rounded perspective to the Prince George’s County Board of Education—grounded in both policy expertise and lived experience as a parent of three children in Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, Terence was the first African American graduate of the prestigious Cary Academy—a milestone that helped shape his lifelong commitment to educational access and opportunity. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina A&T State University in 2004, where he was active in student leadership and pre-law organizations, including the Political Science Society and the Henry E. Frye Pre-Law Society. He later earned his Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law.

After law school, Terence began working directly with young people in Prince George’s County as a mentor and substitute teacher, deepening his commitment to education and community impact. He went on to spend more than a decade working with nonprofit organizations serving vulnerable youth and families, including group homes, workforce development programs, and independent living initiatives. Through this work, he gained firsthand insight into the challenges families face and the importance of aligning education, social services, and community support to create meaningful opportunity.
Today, Terence serves as Administrator of Operations for the Maryland Department of Human Services, where he oversees statewide operations that support local social services offices, strengthen systems that protect children and families, and improve community outcomes. Outside of work, Terence enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, catching up on sports (Keep Pounding!), and serving his community as a proud member of the Prince Hall Masons, Shelton D. Redden Lodge No. 139, and the Kappa Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated®.
At home, Terence is a devoted husband and proud father of three children enrolled in Prince George’s County Public Schools—one in fifth grade, one in third grade, and one in Pre-K4—two of whom receive special education services. His experience as a parent gives him a deeply personal understanding of the importance of strong special education programs, individualized support, and equitable resources for every student.
Terence is raising his family in Prince George’s County and shares the same hopes and concerns as families across the county. He is running for the Prince George’s County Board of Education, District 2, because he believes every child—regardless of background, learning style, or circumstance—deserves the opportunity to thrive. As a parent, public servant, and longtime advocate for youth, he is committed to strengthening educational outcomes, supporting families, and building public trust in our school system.
